Coalition to invest additional $60million for sports funding
May 29, 2016
The Coalition has pledged an additional $60m to expand the Sporting Schools Program to years 7 and 8 in a bid to reverse the decline in physical activity seen in those age groups.
The additional funding brings the investment in the program to $160m and helps ‘Australian schools deliver formal, structured sporting activities for children before, during or after school.’
Since launching in July 2015, more than 5,000 schools and approximately 850,000 primary school children have taken part in the program with individual schools able to choose from a range of sports and work with the sporting organisations to deliver their activities onsite.
